    CALL'N ORION

    Time for a beer

Once upon a time during our high school years (early 80's) Shayne, Tim, John and Ray formed a rock band called Orion.  We learned our favorite songs and jammed as often as Johns parents would let us play in their basement.  We had an “it” factor, the chemistry was amazing.  I recall the day we decided to be an original band and started writing our own songs. That was cool, and that was when I started getting pressure to focus on a “real career”.  Mom said, "you can be whatever you want".

Dad said, if you want to become a doctor, lawyer, dentist or get a trade, you can live at home after graduation.  But, if you want a career in music you can get the hell out and try to make it on your own.  The feud - so I left home and only to discover that surviving got in the way of following my dreams.  Busy with band, 2 part time jobs and finishing high school, I began falling behind in learning songs.  The guilt was horrible, I just couldn't be that guy who didn't practice and waist your time while I learned songs during the jam session.  I quit Orion so I wasn't holding the band back.  In hindsight, that was a bad decision!  Those really were the analog days!  Hahaha!  Since then we’ve landed in other careers, marriages, kids, and may be noticing time fly a little faster as we get older.  My point is - we can still be the original band we once wanted to be!  We are still alive and kicking.  We should be kicking out some rock'n roll man.  The future isn't written yet!  Yup, so I started this project to prove to you guys that this is possible.  Another band has since claimed rights to the name Orion, so I changed the name. Hope you like!  It is fitting.

Check out these demo songs I've written and recorded with the help of some studio musicians.  You wouldn't have listened past the first few bars if I was singing.  There was a reason I would not sing backing vocals!  WalkAbout was inspired by my buddy's hunting accident where he shot his brother in the ass, and his brother stayed at camp instead of going to the hospital to ensure his bro's could fill their tags.  An amazing story I just couldn't capture lyrically so I focused on his native culture and upbringing.  How Humans Thrive has a more positive human rights save the world theme, inspired after becoming fed up with all the bad news on cable TV news.  But, Call'n Orion, I wrote about us.  Do you recall that scene in the old 70's movie, The Warriors... warriors, come out to play.  Ran with that theme.  I hope you dig it.  Hope it brings back some awesome memories!

Just added Voodoo this Curse and Love at First Sight.  Voodoo this Curse is about alcohol addiction in memory of 2 good friends who passed from alcoholism, and Love at First Sight is a pop ballad I wrote for my lovely daughter and new son in-law as a wedding gift.

Special thanks to my brotha from another motha, a mega talented singer, songwriter and producer from Montreal "Bobby John" for his "passionately delivered vocals" on How Humans Thrive, Voodoo this Curse, Love at First Sight and soon to come Gristle & Bone (about the homeless epidemic).  Bobby has released songs with Warner, Universal, Sony, Soave, Netflix, and has a #1 SOCAN Songwriting Award and multiple radio #1s.  A total pro and down to earth cool dude!  Also, thank you  ******** for your rock'n vocals on Call'n Orion and Walkabout.  A super talented ass kick'n singer/producer who wishes to remain confidential.  I often listen to his bands 60's/70's style hard rock tunes and think about starting a band just to cover his songs.

I know I'm trying to achieve the impossible with this Call'n Orion Project.  This isn't just a passion/hobby for me, I do have an ulterior motive... Let's finish what we started.

Shayne, Tim, John, I am CALL'N ORION!!

    Rock On!

PS. Started this project in 2009, all songs are human made, "no AI" as some friends are starting to question.  I'll be a student of songwriting until the day I die.  I'm on a learning curve, experimenting and trying to create original songs that I would listen too.  I seek mentorship and work with professionals to help me along this journey.  I use this site to listen to my own music for now.  If you stumble on it and like one or some of the songs, that's great.  If not, all the best to you too.  I do appreciate "constructive feedback" so if you'd like to share, send an email to:  callnorion at gmail dot com
